Carmen Abbott

Carmen Casanova Abbott PT, PhD has been a physical therapist since graduating from the University of Missouri in 1973. Her specialty areas have been in neurological and spine rehabilitation. Dr. Abbott received her PhD in health education and promotion with an emphasize in the areas of anatomy and vestibular physiology in 2009. Her dissertation was entitled “Community Multidimensional Fall Risk Screening”. She has completed the adult and pediatric Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency-Based courses.  Dr. Abbott is a clinical professor at the University of Missouri Department of Physical Therapy. She has also continued to practice as a vestibular specialist since 1991, serving the university and various outpatient clinics in Columbia. For the past eight years, she has helped develop and serves on the executive leadership team and best practices committee for the Missouri Falls Free Coalition. Currently, she serves as Missouri Physical Therapy Association’s liaison to the Coalition as well as the MPTA’s Practice Chairman.
