An Introduction to CrossFit for the Physical Therapist

Course Description: CrossFit is a popular strength and conditioning program utilized by many people, including individuals seen in physical therapy. Given the growth of CrossFit, it is crucial that physical therapists not only are aware of the program, but also able to understand common movements and exercise principles used in CrossFit. Knowledge of these movements and principles will aid physical therapists in determining if it safe for their patient to adopt or return to the CrossFit program.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

-Recognize and understand how to perform common weightlifting movements used in CrossFit.

-Recognize and understand how to perform common gymnastic movements used in CrossFit.

-Recognize and understand how to perform common monostructural movements used in CrossFit

-Understand basic principles of CrossFit programming, including variability, functional movements, intensity, and scaling.

-Help patients select an appropriate facility/timeframe if they are interested in exploring or returning to CrossFit.
