I graduated from St Louis University, being a member of APTA Missouri for the first 10 years of my career. I moved around the country with my husband's job but always called Missouri home. My various involvement in APTA across the United States has given me a perspective regarding many issues we face here in Missouri: Direct Access, patient access to care, involvement of students and new professionals, reimbursement across various settings, and recognition by other professions and the public of what Physical Therapy entails. Since coming back to Missouri 4 years ago, I have been on the committee for our Missouri Scholar Candidate, Education Review committee for Conferences and am a Clinical Director for FUNfitness for Special Olympics Missouri; which part of that role is reaching out to get more physical therapists involved.
We are on the brink of a new age for physical therapy; one that will see the profession in a whole new light. We need to reach therapists from all regions of our state, from all practice settings and all generations (especially the new professionals) in order to continue moving our profession forward. I have been part of strategies to achieve this goal in other states and in various academies. We are the movement experts and together we are strong. email: jheitzpt@gmail.com phone: 573-556-6730 (APTA MO office)
