Founded in 1949 as a Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the Missouri Physical Therapy Association (MPTA) represents physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy statewide. The MPTA promotes excellence in the practice of physical therapy, responding to the unique needs of the public, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students.

Mission

To advance and promote the profession of physical therapy, supporting its members in order to improve and advocate for the physical health and functional abilities of the individuals and communities they serve.

Vision

Establish physical therapy as the preferred healthcare provider for all Missourians with neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

Goals

  • Missouri physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will recognize, appreciate, and understand the role and value of MPTA membership, resulting in an increase in membership and retention.
  • Increase public awareness and understanding of physical therapy and how to access services, affirming the physical therapist as the practitioner of choice for function and mobility.
  • The MPTA and its members will educate all Missouri legislators regarding physical therapist practice in order to implement state physical therapy legislative goals.
  • Provide leadership development to empower aspiring physical therapy leaders to understand, embrace, and promote a culture consistent with APTA’s vision.
  • Promote continuing education opportunities to allow for clinical practice development of all PTs and PTAs.
