"The Best way to predict your Future is to create it."

Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States

The MPTA places tremendous value on our student members. The student members of today will become the future leaders of our organization. Our student members are truly creating their own future; at a very early stage in their careers they see the value in their profressional organization.

Each month the MPTA will place a spotlight on one of our tremendous student physical therapists or student physical therapist assistants. Please contact Sylvia Czuppon, MPTA Social Media Chair, if you would like to recommend a student for our Spotlight page.

~~

I have always been an active person, who enjoys sports, and the science behind the human body. I graduated from Hannibal LaGrange University with a Bachelors in Organizational Management in 2009. Shortly after receiving my degree I entered the business world of sales. While I enjoyed sales, I've always had a calling to help people, and as I have gotten older that calling has only intensified. I had always thought physical therapy was a field that I was interested in. However, given I am a little older than most traditional students and the fact I have already invested years and money into a business degree, I didn't feel that becoming a physical therapist, and entering the physical therapy profession would ever be an option for me, Until I met Angela.

Angela  is a PTA and through conversation she explained what she did as a PTA. After speaking with her and learning it was typically only a 1 year program, I begin investigating the programs in my area. I was able to find a program, and it was one calendar year, but Monday-Friday 8-4. As an older adult it was more difficult to make that work financially, but with anything, if there is a will there is a way. I worked A LOT the next year, saved money, prepared  and applied the following year. After what felt like an eternity i received my acceptance letter to the MAC/CTC PTA Program.

As a PTA student, I enjoy learning about the human body and the physical therapy practice. I look forward to the new skills I will acquire and be able to utilize in the future. I am unsure which area of physical therapy I am most interested in, but I do feel my area of interest will develop as the program progresses. However, as long as I am helping people, I feel I am in some way giving back and making the world somewhat a better place.
