Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:


  1. Name the indications, contraindications, and precautions for the use of NMES.

  2. Compare and contrast the differences between a voluntary muscular contraction and a contraction assisted by NMES.

  3. Compare and contrast the differences in NMES parameters for the primary indications of neuro re-education, strengthening, edema reduction, and muscle spasm reduction.

  4. Summarize the current evidence related to outcomes when NMES is utilized for common diagnoses as seen in physical therapy.
