Accomplishments of the MPTA

Recent Chapter Accomplishments

Legislative

• Successfully defeated bill to repeal current ban on POPTS in Missouri thanks to the legislative team of John Bardgett, our Government Affairs Chair, and almost 300 participants at the 2005 Lobby Day
• Helped contribute to saving Missouri’s Early Intervention Program, First Steps
• Regulatory (Advisory Panel on Physical Therapy to the State Board of Healing Arts)
• Continues to work on enforcement of anti-POPTS law
• Working with Veterinary Medicine Board to resolve issues associated with the ability of PT’s to treat animals in Missouri

Education

• The Spring Conference will rotate around the state in an attempt to reach more members through continuing education and chapter business

Reimbursement

• Our Reimbursement Chair continues to meet with insurance medical directors from BCBS, UHC, and Medicare to educate on physical therapy
• Investigating ways to change BCBS of Kansas City’s policy on non-reimbursement of electrical stimulation
